Picture this...tense, freshly 18-year-old high school senior Hannah just about to get her first photoshoot EVER (that she isn't a baby in). My hands are clammy, knees weak, arms are heavy, there's...oh, wait. That's the beginning of an Eninem song. Anyway. You get the drift. Photoshoots were NOT in my wheelhouse back then. They still barely are now. I was a self-conscious baby adult that just STARTED the process of learning who she is and what the world is all about, all the while not knowing quite yet that she's an extreme perfectionist (and it's a problem).

Cue Christina McCammon. My mom and Chris were childhood friends and reconnected on Facebook. Chris had a photography business that my mother loved keeping up with, so it was a definite no-brainer to hire her for my senior pics. Now here I was. Meeting a new person, wearing a new dress in an all new experience. A no biggie for some, but again. I'm a walking ice cube at this age if I don't trust you.

"Now, I want you to do a little twirl. Swing your dress back and forth, like thiss." Chris had no dress to twirl. She was in a normal ol' outfit, but still she started whimsically twirling around in a field for me.

I immediately started feeling at home with this lovable, light-hearted woman. She didn't take herself too seriously, something that I've continuously learned from her, ever since becoming her friend. This was something my often-heavy heart was yearning for in my young years.

"Have some fun!" She called to me, as she took the pictures. "Come over here and see what I have so far." Ohhhh no. Not being confronted with my own face! I was scared to see her pictures, but wow! When I looked at them, I saw myself in my most genuine form, expressing my humor and finally free from fear of judgement.

When talent, heart, and personality meet in one person...God can truly work through them. Now years later, since photographing my senior pictures, my wedding, AND the welcoming of our firstborn daughter, Chris embraces her calling in an all new way, sharing the wisdom she has to offer through writing.

I found myself shocked to learn what a difficult beginning Chris had in life. This joyful, fun, happy, and Christ-centered woman is a wonderful example of "the refiner's fire" which is one of my favorite illustrations of how God uses trials to mold us into a holy craftmanship. Welders must heat their metal to incredible temperatures of intense stress and strain to make their work maleable. The same goes for God's people, if they are open to His working through them.

Chris ventures further into her calling of mentorship to further encourage others by now AUTHORING HER FIRST BOOK! On June 20th, 2025, Chris published her debut book Rooted in Wellness!

Of course I knew I had to buy and review. I only publish reviews of books that I thoroughly find interest in and want to recommend, though. Turns out- that was no issue with this read! Me, the woman knee-deep in momming two little girls only a year apart in age, accomplished reading this book in only about a week or less.
